MOVIE REVIEW: Dhadak 2
Dhadak 2
Starring: Siddhant Chaturvedi, Tripti Dimrii, Vipin Sharma, Zakir Hussain
Director: Shazia Iqbal
Music Directors: Tanishk Bagchi, Rochak Kohli
A spiritual sequel to the 2018 hit Dhadak and a remake of the acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, Dhadak 2 is a more gutsy, grounded, and politically aware film than Dhadak as it does not shy away from addressing the issue of caste-based discrimination in all its brutality. However, the ending feels sudden, inconclusive and hollow, which dilutes the overall impact.
Set in the Hindi heartland, this romantic social drama follows the star-crossed—rather, caste-crossed—journey of its protagonists: Neelesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), a boy from an oppressed caste, and Vidhi (Tripti Dimrii), his privileged uppercaste classmate, both undergraduates in a law college. Will their love conquer all?
The performances power the movie. Siddhant Chaturvedi delivers a career defining act as Neelesh. His portrayal of a man battling systemic oppression while holding on to hope is both inspiring and heartbreaking. As the naive yet fiery Vidhi, Tripti Dimrii proves that she is more than just a pretty face. However, their romantic chemistry lacks the spark that was palpable in Dhadak. Looming tall among the talented supporting cast is Zakir Hussain as the college principal. Dhadak 2 is bold in intent, raw in moments, but ultimately falls short of leaving a lasting impact.
