MOVIE REVIEW: Param Sundari

A new cutting-edge dating app called Find My Soulmate leads rich Delhi brat Param (Sidharth Malhotra) to the simple Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor) in a sleepy town of Kerala and he is smitten. He was lucky. We in the audience are still searching for some soul in this cross-cultural romantic comedy about soulmates!

Well, getting back to the story, Sundari takes her time but eventually falls in love with Param, who tries hard to put on the SRK charm on every occasion. The twist comes in the form of Sundari’s childhood friend, Venu Gopal. Of course, we know that eventually the dilwala will get his dulhaniya.

While there’s no doubt that Sidharth and Janhvi look good together, they don't exactly crackle. A stronger chemistry between the two might have made up to some extent the shortcomings which are aplenty—lackluster writing, humor which doesn’t always land (Sanjay Kapoor, cast as Param’s dad, does have his moments though), cultural stereotypes, and uneven pacing.

On the plus side, you can't take your eyes off the gorgeous Kerala backdrops, and the music is pleasant enough. Pardesiya, with its strong AR Rahman hangover, is the best track.

To sum up, though Param Sundari comes nowhere close to the much-loved rom coms of Bollywood, some in the audience may still find it a light and breezy watch.
