Movie Review: Bodyguard ; Top 10

Starring: Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor
Director: Siddique
Music Directors: Himesh Reshammiya, Pritam

When it’s a Salman Khan film, you can be sure it will pull in the crowds, irrespective of the quality of the film. So it is with Bodyguard. Only for diehard Sallu fans, the movie has nothing to offer to the fussy cinema buff. So you have two options. Either you don’t watch it, or if you do, go with the resolve that you will enjoy it and consciously overlook what you can’t digest.

While there’s lots of action—the fights have been excellently choreographed—Bodyguard stands out from other Salman Khan movies like Wanted and Dabanng in that it is a love story at heart and attempts to present the soft and sensitive side of the hero. Bodyguard Lovely Singh (Salman), who takes his job very seriously, has a new assignment. He has to protect MBA student Divya (Kareena Kapoor), the daughter of business tycoon Sartaj Rana (Raj Babbar), from her prospective assailant, Mahesh Manjrekar.

The romantic track has Divya trying to act as the mysterious caller from nowhere in an effort to get the overzealous Lovely out of her way. Of course, the predictable happens: she inadvertently falls in love with her brawny bodyguard. There is a comedy track, too, but it fails to amuse.

While the first half is extremely repetitive, the second half picks up a bit, with a twist in the penultimate reels. The musical score is good, Teri Meri being the pick of the lot.

To sum up, Dame Luck smiles on some films like Bodyguard, which is average fare but has demigod Salman Khan as its hero. Need more be said?
