September 2011
Did That Really Happen? 1. Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina listed her race as “white” on her 2001 voter registration card.

2. A state appellate court panel in New Jersey ruled that a group of Hindu residents can sue an Indian restaurant for money to travel to the Ganges River in India to purify themselves after they were accidentally served meat-filled samosas.

3. A group of former NFL players invested in a professional football league that will be launched in 2012 in India.

An Islamist group in Somalia banned samosas for being too Christian.

5. Freida Pinto signed an endorsement deal with Bush Brothers and will appear on cans of Bush’s Best Pinto Beans.

(1, 2, 3 and 4 really happened.)

Compiled and partly written by Indian humorist MELVIN DURAI, author of the novel Bala Takes the Plunge.
