Good Sports: Haryana Boxers Win Gold at World Championships
A pair of 24-year-olds from Haryana, Jaismine Lamboria and Minakshi Hooda, won gold medals at the 2025 World Boxing Championships, held recently in Liverpool, England. Competing in the 48kg division, Hooda scored a 4-1 victory over Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan, a bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics. Lamboria claimed her gold in the 57kg division, winning 4-1 against Poland’s Julia Szeremeta, a silver medalist at the Paris games. “It’s a very proud moment to achieve gold for India,” Lamboria told ANI. “I am feeling very happy.”
She hails from a family of boxers and was trained by two uncles who are former national champions. In contrast, Hooda is the first from her family to be involved in sports. While Lamboria and Hooda returned home as world champions, Nupur Sheoran won a silver medal and Pooja Rani a bronze, giving India four medals in the global event.
