Good Sports: India Shooters Win Eight Medals at World Cup
India won four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at the recent International Shooting Sports Federation’s World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Sift Samra (women’s 50m rifle 3 positions), Rudrankksh Patil (men’s 10m air rifle), Suruchi Singh (women’s 10m air pistol), and Vijayveer Sidhu (men’s 25m rapid fire pistol) took home gold medals.
Only 18, Singh won her first-ever World Cup medal after holding off a competitive contingent from China. Singh also won a bronze medal, partnering with Saurabh Chaudhary to finish third in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Singh’s father, Inder Singh Phogat, told The Bridge that he had initially enrolled her in wrestling, hoping she would follow in the footsteps of other successful wrestlers. “But after three months, she had a serious collarbone injury,” he said. “So we decided to shift her to shooting.”
