Good Sports: Jasprit Bumrah Solidifies Ranking as Top Test Bowler

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has recorded the highest ever rating points tally by an Indian bowler in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings. His performance during the Border- Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne, Australia, solidified his spot at the top of the rankings.
Bumrah, who was shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award, has 908 rating points, moving up from his previous high of 904, which tied him with Ravichandran Ashwin. He is now 16th in the all-time list, tied with Alan Davidson, an Australian cricketer of the 1950s and ‘60s. The list is led by England’s Sydney Barnes (932) and George Lohmann (931) who played more than a century ago, while Pakistan’s Imran Khan (922) and Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (920) are third and fourth.
Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar believes that Bumrah will eventually become India’s Test captain. “He leads from the front and has a natural air of leadership,” Gavaskar said on Australia’s Channel 7. “He’s not someone who will put undue pressure on teammates but expects them to deliver, knowing their responsibilities as members of the national team.”
