Good Sports: KENTUCKY HONORS FORMER JUNIOR TENNIS STAR
Vimal Patel, a 48-yearold tennis coach in Naples, Florida, will be inducted next January in the Kentucky Tennis Hall of Fame for his achievements as a junior tennis player.
Patel, who grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky, and attended Owensboro Catholic High School, had a stellar junior tennis career, ranked as high as number one in the state, number two in the South, and number two nationally through multiple age groups (under 12 to under 18).
Joining Stanford University on a tennis scholarship in 1990, he was a three-time All-American and a member of the 1992 National Championship Team. He competed professionally around the world and received an ATP ranking in both singles and doubles.
“I’m so excited for my family,” Patel told the Messenger-Inquirer of Owensboro. “We put a lot of miles, a lot of hard work, a lot of years into tennis.”
