Good sports: KUMAR JOINS JHA ON OLYMPIC TABLE-TENNIS TEAM
As the top-ranked men’s table tennis player in America and No. 25 in the world, Kanak Jha was a slam-dunk to qualify for the U.S. team that will compete in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, now postponed until the summer of 2021.
Another Indian American, Nikhil Kumar, has joined him on the team after winning all his matches in a recent qualifying competition in Santa Monica College, California. Kumar, along with a third qualifier, Xin Zhou, was undefeated in two stages of round-robin play.
Kumar, 17, is so far the youngest American to qualify for the 2020 Olympics. Jha, at age 16, was the youngest American to compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
