Good Sports: Men’s Hockey Team Wins Asia Cup for Fourth Time
India won its fourth Men’s Hockey Asia Cup title on September 7, beating South Korea in the final 4-1. The 12th edition of the Asia Cup, the quadrennial championship organized by the Asian Hockey Federation, was held at the Bihar Sports University Hockey Stadium in Rajgir, Bihar. India was undefeated in the tournament, including 15-0 and 7-0 victories over Kazakhstan and China respectively. As the Asian champion, India qualified for the 2026 World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands. India previously won the Asia Cup in 2003, 2007, and 2017.
The Indian team dedicated their victory to the victims of flooding in Punjab and other parts of India. “Winning the Asia Cup after eight long years, and that too on home soil, is a moment of immense pride for all of us,” said Harmanpreet Singh, the 29-yearold captain. “But our hearts go out to the [flood] victims and their families.”
