Good Sports: MULTIPLE MEDALS

P. V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal won silver and bronze medals at the recent World Badminton Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, the first time India has ever won multiple medals at the event.

Sindhu came within a hair’s breadth of winning the gold medal, taking Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara to a third game and barely losing 22-20 in the 110-minute final match.

Nehwal, who won silver at the 2015 World Championships, had lost to Okuhara in the semi-final, also in three games, dashing hopes of an all-India final.

It was the third World Championships medal for Sindhu, who had won bronze at the 2013 and 2014 championships. The Olympic silver medalist had hoped to win gold, but was pleased she had avoided a third bronze. “I am happy that I changed the color to silver,” she said.
