Good Sports: Sandhu Receives Basketball Scholarship
Amaan Sandhu, a seven-foot center, has become the first player from the NBA Academy India to earn a Division I men’s basketball scholarship. He will play for Monmouth University in New Jersey.
A native of Mohali, Punjab, Sandhu was part of the inaugural class of prospects at the NBA Academy India in May 2017. He left the academy in the fall of 2020 to enroll in First Love Christian Academy in Washington, Pennsylvania.
“His journey to get to where he is now is incredible and we’re glad he chose to come with us,” said Monmouth head coach King Rice. “To be one of the first players born in India to ever earn a Division I men’s basketball scholarship is major for Amaan and his family and we can’t wait to get to work with him.”
Sandhu is the third player overall from NBA Academy India to earn a Division I basketball scholarship, joining two female players, Sanjana Ramesh at Northern Arizona University and Harsimran Kaur at University of San Diego.
