Good Sports: TURBANS ON THE COURT

Congressmen Ami Bera and Joe Crowley are leading an effort from lawmakers to persuade the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to change a policy that forbids Sikh players from wearing turbans.

The members of Congress sent a letter to the IBF last summer and followed it up with another letter recently. “We urge you to amend your policies to ensure that people all around the world have an equal opportunity to play the game,” they wrote.

Last July, two Sikh players on India’s national team were forced to remove their turbans to compete in the FIBA Asia Cup in China.
