Good Sports: Yadav Outshines Chopra at World Championships
Neeraj Chopra is human after all. The former Olympic gold medalist finished 8th at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, his best javelin throw barely clearing 84 meters. Another Indian, Sachin Yadav, recorded a throw of 86.27 meters, good enough for fourth place. It was a personal-best throw for the 25-yearold from Uttar Pradesh, announcing to the world that the sport of javelin is not a one-man show in India. He finished less than two meters behind the gold medalist, Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad.
Chopra’s former coach Uwe Hohn, who holds a world record in javelin, believes that Yadav is capable of exceeding 90 meters if he improves his technique, which Hohn considers “very basic.” As the German told Indian Express, “He needs to learn running, to get the right rhythm, work on his body position and use more than only his arm to throw.”
