Good Sports: Karthikeyan Joins Ajith Racing, Gets Biopic
Narain Karthikeyan, India’s first Formula One driver, has joined Ajith Kumar Racing, the international car racing team led by Tamil actor Ajith Kumar. Serving as mentor and head of driver development, Karthikeyan will also drive for the team in the upcoming Asian Le Mans Series. The 48-year-old driver, who competed in Formula One from 2005 to 2012, was honored with India’s fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri, in 2010.
A Tamil biopic on Kathikeyan’s life is currently being produced. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan and tentatively called NK 370, it will follow Karthikeyan’s journey from his native Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, to the international racing circuit. The son of a former Indian national rally champion, Kathikeyan began racing at age 15 and attended the Elf Winfield Racing School in France. “Narain Karthikeyan’s journey isn’t just about racing. It’s about belief—in yourself, your country, and a dream no one else can see,” Narayanan told Variety. “That’s what drew me to this story.”
