Parul Kapur wins Georgia Author of the Year Award
Atlanta-based Parul Kapur bagged the 2025 Georgia Author of the Year Award in the First Novel category for Inside the Mirror, published by the University of Nebraska Press. Her debut also earned the AWP Prize for the Novel, was longlisted for both the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize and the New American Voices Award, received Honorable Mention in Literary Fiction, and was a finalist in Multicultural Fiction at the 2024 Foreword INDIES Book Awards. It also won the 2024 American Fiction Award in Literary Fiction. Born in Assam, India, and raised in the U.S., Kapur holds an MFA from Columbia University. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Ploughshares, Guernica, The Paris Review, and The Wall Street Journal Europe, among other publications. She has received fellowships from the Hambidge Center and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts.
Also recognized at the 2025 Georgia Author of the Year Awards were Ruby Lal, a finalist in the Biography category for Vagabond Princess: The Great Adventures of Gulbadan (Yale University Press); and Uddipana Goswami, a finalist in the Short Story Collection category for The Women Who Would Not Die (Speaking Tiger Books).
