MOVIE UPDATE August 2003

Boom, a whacky underworld satire set in Dubai, releases on August 1. The film features Amitabh Bachchan as a Bo Derek fan who chases his dream woman. The leading ladies are Zeenat Aman, Madhu Sapre, Padma Lakshmi and Katrina Kaif. Prakash Jha's Gangaajal starring Gracy Singh is slated for an August 15 release. Rakesh Roshan's Koi... Mil Gaya and JP Dutta's LoC are other August releases.

Raveena Tandon who had taken a break from shooting is back to business. She is to begin shooting for a film tentatively titled Ek Baar Phir Se. The actress is paired opposite Jackie Shroff in the film, which also stars Sanjay Dutt. She is also doing E. Niwas' Jab Raat Hoti Hai with Arjun Rampal as her leading man.

Priyanka Chopra, riding high after the success of Andaaz, has been chosen to play the leading lady in Sajid Nadiadwala's Mujhse Shaadi Karoge ? Everything is Fair When in Love. Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan are the two leading men.

Unlike Fire and Earth, Canada-based filmmaker Deepa Mehta's two forthcoming films are targeted mainly at a western audience. The Republic of Love, based on a novel of the same name, will release in October, followed by Tuscan Soup, another film with an all-western cast.

Even as his forthcoming project Musafir is being written about, director Sanjay Gupta is busy scripting a darker take on relationships. Called Radio Rapchick (Mumbai slang), it is a story about five couples in different stages of unhappiness.

Salman Khan fans can look forward to his forthcoming film Tere Naam in which he's paired with newcomer Bhumika Chawla. The film, directed by Satish Kaushik, is about obsessive love!

Bollywood producer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra has announced that he is joining hands with Bobby Newmyer and Jeff Silver of Hollywood's Outlaw Productions for his first Hollywood production titled Move 5, which revolves around the game of chess.
