Movie Update September 2004

In director Shashi Ranjan's Dobara, set to release in September, Pakistani heartthrob Muammar Rana makes a pivotal guest appearance. The role was earlier earmarked for Sanjay Dutt. Another Pakistani actor, Jawed Sheikh, has joined the Bollywood pack. In Anubhav Sinha's multi-starrer Dus, Sheikh plays a Pakistani officer who joins hands with his Indian counterparts to combat terrorism.

There is a strong buzz that Hrithik Roshan will sign Vishal Bharadwaj's Mantra. Preity Zinta is already part of the project. Mantra, which is a fantasy film with loads of magic, aims to appeal to both adults and children. Based on a story idea by Shekhar Kapur, Mantra will be scripted by Bharadwaj and Abbas Tyrewala.

Govind Menon has managed a casting coup. In his next film, he will reportedly bring together Rekha and Mallika Sherawat. What's more, they will play sisters in the yet-untitled film!

Paresh Rawal has been signed by Hollywood production house Miramax for their next film. Paresh, who's acted before in an Indo-American production called American Chai, has had to opt out of the Vipul Shah-directed Waqt ? A Race Against Time. He'll be replaced by Boman Irani.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra has announced his new film, Parineeta, starring Saif Ali Khan in the central role. There's also Chopra's favourite, Munnabhai Sanjay Dutt, playing an important role. Parineeta is based on the 1914 classic of the same name by Sarat Chandra. Although the two leading ladies have been finalised, Chopra is unwilling to reveal their names.

Romesh Sharma, who made Hum with Amitabh Bachchan, will launch his son, Karan, now. And who can make the project saleable than friend Amitabh himself, and he has readily agreed to do the film titled Dil Jo Bhi Kahey. He will play a Mauritian of Indian origin, but the film will not shot in Mauritius. Instead Romesh has decided on Stockholm, where no other Hindi film has ever been shot.

The buzz is that Nagesh Kukunoor's next film is titled 90 Days and is about a man who comes across a huge fortune only to realise that he has only 90 days to live.
