The Art of Living Foundation (AOLF) and the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) celebrated two local heroes, Kate Atwood and Sharath Mekala, at its Human Values Ceremony on June 12, 2011 at the Georgia Tech Student Center Theatre.

The audience was treated to an imaginatively choreographed “Shiv Tandava” dance, with a cast of almost fifty ‘Stars,’ who set the stage on fire with flawless moves, pounding beats, precise formations, synchronized hand movements and artistry that elicited an equally enthusiastic applause.

In a well contested finale on May 28, 2011, Richa Sharma of Kolkata, India was crowned Mrs. India International 2011 at the 14th Street Playhouse of Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta. Richa is elated to be India’s ambassador and feels honored to represent India at the Mrs. International Pageant.

On Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 9am to 7pm at the Global Mall in Norcross, many of Atlanta’s Indian community came together to support Indian yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s “Time for Action” Solidarity and Fast.

The centerpiece of the program, Mahishasur Mardini, took the audience into the mythical roots of Indian culture. Beautifully narrated in Hindi and performed in Kathak, the Kathakar (Kathak dancers) told the story of Goddess Durga.

Director and choreographer Divya Srivastava arranged a selection of technical Kathak pieces demonstrated by the students, showing the prowess they have attained to earn their 1st and 2nd year certificates.

Shruthilaya, the Carnatic Music School in Atlanta, has been conducting Carnatic Music competitions for the past six years for ages 5 years to 25 years. This year the children competed with preliminary rounds on April 30th and the finals on May 21st at the Hindu Temple of Atlanta.

Registration for Venture and Innovation Summit – TiE Atlanta (VISTA) opened at Cobb Galleria on April 13 with breakfast for the attendees. Awards were given in the categories of Student Entrepreneur, Top Up and Coming Entrepreneur, Most Significant Deal of the Year, and Entrepreneur of 2011.

A diverse cross section of Atlanta’s Indian-American associations, including professionals, academics and community activists, attended the inauguration of GOPIO-Atlanta (Global Organization of People of Indian Origin) at its first awards gala & banquet on Saturday, April 23, 2011.
