Rising sixth graders to rising seniors, students from all backgrounds and with no prior knowledge of Hindi required, came from as far away as New Jersey and North Carolina for a 10-day immersion Hindi program, presented by Balvihar Hindi School of Atlanta, using a federal grant.

With the hall walls decorated, ceiling full of colorful flags, and two village huts built, Brahmin Samaj of Georgia invited people who had their entire family in USA and had not performed Yagnopavit Sanskar on their son, to have Sanskar without difficulties of organizing an event and with camaraderie among others.

A unique event illustrating how raags evoke different emotions within the listener was presented at the Georgia Tech Students Center by SwarGanga on August 6, 2011. Pritam and Prithwiraj Bhattacharjee, faculty of the Pandit Jasraj School of Music in Atlanta, were accompanied by their students.

At the Hindu Temple of Atlanta’s volunteer appreciation day dinner on August 14, the temple also donated to Clayton County Police Officers Fund to aid families of officers killed in the line of duty, and awarded four scholarships to deserving students.

The Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA) celebrations included the literary multitasking feat of ashtavadhanam, seminars, a political forum, visits by Dr. Purandeswari, GOI minister, and Balakrishna, popular Telugu cine hero (both children of NTR—Nandamuri Taraka RamaRao), fundraising for a cancer hospital/research institute in Hyderabad, and more!

With the most recent Census data mapping Georgia as the 2nd fastest growing state for Asian minority business ownership, interest is high in doing business with India. The emphasis is to link small and medium size enterprises of India and the U.S., which would help employ many more Americans.

Five years after its debut in 2006, Arpan: an Offering, by Savitha Viswanathan’s Nritya Sankalpa Dance Academy, presented a program including a dance about emotions conceptualized, choreographed, and performed entirely by senior students, and a dance drama by Sheejith Krishna, a dancer from Kalakshetra, accompanied by two California artists.

Who says you get what you pay for? Some things in life are free, yet very valuable. Atlanta Indians were treated to one such event, a magnificent Kuchipudi dance drama at Hindu Temple of Atlanta in Riverdale, by Hari Rama Murthy’s academy, Kuchipudi Kalakshetra, based in India.
