The Emory debate team of Viveth Karthikeyan and Kristen Lowe, both ranked in the top 10 in the country, beat Harvard’s team to win the American Debate Association’s National Championship.

Among nine South Asian Americans who have been named to the 2017 class of the distinguished Washington Leadership Program are Emory University students Priya Elangova, Akshar Patel, and Namrata Verghese.

Ananya Ghose has a full scholarship to Georgia Tech. Karl Patram and Sharan Ravigopal ranked top 5% on the Spanish National Exam. Gururaj Deshpande is a winner of the national Global Citizen Scholarship.

Soros Fellowship for Sanjena Anshu Sathian
June 2017 -
This year, 1,775 applicants tried for the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, which awards up to $90,000 each for grad school. Nine recipients have South Asian heritage; one is from Georgia.
