School principal and teacher recognized
July 2017 - Dr. Ritu Ahuja of Northwood Elementary School has been named Principal of the Year in Gwinnett County. Aysha Farooqi has also been recognized, as Haynes Bridge Middle School’s Teacher of the Year.

Emory team wins national debate championship
July 2017 - The Emory debate team of Viveth Karthikeyan and Kristen Lowe, both ranked in the top 10 in the country, beat Harvard’s team to win the American Debate Association’s National Championship.

July 2017 - Monica Modi Khant, Exec. Dir. of Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network (GAIN), is one of the “Women Making a Mark” 2017, featured in Atlanta magazine for her commitment to helping those in need.

Three in Washington Leadership Program
July 2017 - Among nine South Asian Americans who have been named to the 2017 class of the distinguished Washington Leadership Program are Emory University students Priya Elangova, Akshar Patel, and Namrata Verghese.

July 2017 - Ananya Ghose has a full scholarship to Georgia Tech. Karl Patram and Sharan Ravigopal ranked top 5% on the Spanish National Exam. Gururaj Deshpande is a winner of the national Global Citizen Scholarship.

Soros Fellowship for Sanjena Anshu Sathian
June 2017 - This year, 1,775 applicants tried for the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, which awards up to $90,000 each for grad school. Nine recipients have South Asian heritage; one is from Georgia.

June 2017 - Rockin Robots Team of 4th graders from Cumming, Georgia bagged the “Excellence Award,” the ultimate championship award at the week-long VEX IQ World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.

June 2017 - Abhiram Kapaganty won a hard-fought and suspenseful contest that ran unusually long—23 rounds—at the 56th Georgia State Spelling Bee on March 17, 2017 at GSU. Jahnvi Bhagat placed second.
