Seminar Sheds Light On Immigration Issues

Law firm George R. Willy, PC in association with the Atlanta Gujarati Samaj held a successful immigration seminar at the Gujarati Samaj Hall on Sunday, May 16, 2004. The seminar was free to all and held as a community service event.

Speakers included retired Houston INS District Director and a member of the Senior Executive Service, Richard B. Cravener and Attorney-at-law George R. Willy. The speakers covered hot button issues in immigration and focused on topics that were especially relevant to the audience. The packed listeners came mainly from south Asia and the Indian subcontinent in the greater Atlanta area.

Also present were C.K. Patel, Director at Large of the Atlanta chapter of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association and Nagindas Patel, President of the Atlanta Gujarati Samaj. Several other prominent community leaders were in attendance, Subash Razdan of Namaste Bombay and Sanjay Pandya of Desi magazine among others.

George R. Willy spoke primarily on the L-1 class of visas that are geared towards intra-company transfers of managers, executives and specialty employees into the United States. Cravener spoke on the revised "INS" that has been incorporated into the Department of Homeland Security after the events of 9/11. Being the chief architect of the re-design of the old INS into three separate agencies, Cravener shared first hand knowledge of the purview of each agency. More importantly, he explained what the changes meant for people dealing with the various agencies and/or traveling to and from the United States.

After the speakers finished their speeches, the floor was opened to the audience to ask questions. The speakers added significant value at this point by addressing each and every question and offering solutions. For those whose cases were too complex, the law firm of George R. Willy, PC arranged free consultations.

Given the success of the immigration seminar, Willy offered the Samaj his services to conduct future seminars on matters of concern and interest to the community.
