Deepika Kurup, 16, of New Hampshire, is an action hero. Well, an Action for Nature ecohero, to be precise. She won first place in Action For Nature’s 2014 International Young Eco-Hero Awards.
Deepika was honored for developing a solar-powered water purification system that destroys harmful bacteria and degrades organic matter. The young scientist, a 10th grader at Nashua (N.H.) High School South, has spent three years doing research on water purification.
“I hope to collaborate, share, and work with others who have similar interests and move towards the same goal of clean drinking water for all,” she said.
