Veena Rao receives Pride of India Award

Veena Rao, founder editor of NRI Pulse newspaper, has been awarded the Bharat Gaurav (Pride of India) Award by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi. The award was presented on January 12, 2013 in New Delhi at a conference on “Global Participation in India’s Economic Development.” Rao’s newspaper has been serving the community for six years and, per the 2010 Limca Book of Records, is the first newspaper outside India to be edited and published by a nonresident-Indian woman. Rao studied journalism and communication in Pune, India and gained experience in various publications there before founding her free newspaper, the primary source of Indian-American news in the Southeastern United States.
