Kathakali, Kathak, and more at $2.50 per hour

August 25, 1950 – A flyer in Los Angeles advertises the availability of “Beginners and Advance Classes in Hindu Dances.” The instructor, named Satya, offers to teach Kathakali, Manipuri, Kathak, folk dances, and “[Uday] Shankar style.” The classes are paid 10 lessons in advance, and cost ranges from $0.50 for a group lesson for a student under 14 years to $2.50 for a private lesson for an adult. Dance performances and lectures can be arranged for all occasions.
