Multicultural DVDs for the Global Generation
Rashmi Turner (née Shrivastava), a self-described working mom, was the executive producer of Disney’s Baby Einstein, a well-regarded line of educational products for infants and preschoolers. Now she has come out with her own DVDs for small children. Called Global Wonders, her series has a distinctly multicultural flavor that “inspires children to discover, share and compare everyday customs, music, heritage, language and lifestyles in the kaleidoscope of cultures that surround them.”
Her titles, so far, include Around the World, Mexico, India, and African American. Wonder Vision and Language Jams are interactive features on the DVDs that allow kids to learn interesting facets about other cultures while having fun. One can uncover hidden paths to discover facts, for example, or dance/sing along to original musical compositions. The India DVD touches on a variety of topics: Diwali, naans, cricket, carrom, tigers, Gandhi, and Prince Ram. These DVDs can be ordered from Amazon.com.
