THE RETURN OF HAROLD AND KUMAR
Kal Penn is back, along with his buddy John Cho, but this time they’re escaping from Guantanamo Bay rather than going to White Castle again to relive their burger experience. In this darker sequel, Kumar (Penn) is mistaken for a bomb-carrying terrorist when he and Harold (Cho) are seen using a bong—which resembles a hookah—on a plane. The two stoners are then taken to America’s most notorious prison, Gitmo, from where they naturally escape and end up, improbably, at President Bush’s ranch in Waco, Texas. A wacky plot? No doubt, but then again, that’s what makes it a ‘Harold and Kumar’ film. With their high jinks and unique style, these Asian Americans seem to be following in the footsteps of cinema’s well-known comic duos.
