I Hate Luv Storys
Starring: Imran Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Samir Soni, Sameer Dattani
Producer: Karan Johar
Director: Punit Malhotra
Music Directors: Vishal-Shekhar
This one’s pure candyfloss. But despite there being no real story to boast about and its cliché-ridden script—though the basic concept of a ‘film-within-a-film set-up’ is interesting—I Hate Luv Storys works mainly because of two factors: the new, refreshing pair of Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor with their lively chemistry, and the terrific music with its contemporary appeal.
Jay Dhingra (Imran Khan) is a cynic who turns his nose up at anything that is mushy (read filmy), the irony being that he works as assistant director to a filmmaker, Veer (Samir Soni) who is famous for churning out the most romantic blockbusters in Bollywood. Enter the new art director, Simran Sharma (Sonam Kapoor), a die-hard romantic who believes she is living the perfect life with Raj (Sameer Dattani) as her boyfriend. But you know what’s going to happen, from the word go. Jay and Simran predictably begin on the we-hate-each-other note but it doesn’t take too long for things to change.
Imran and Sonam look good and liven up the screen with their sparring, though their roles don’t really demand great histrionics. Samir Soni’s cheeky impersonations of Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are fun to watch. Kavin Dave as Imran’s buddy is a scene-stealer.
So go watch I Hate Luv Storys. You might just love this luv story!
